Christmas message

November 28th, 2006

I get to preach a message in the coming weeks in “big church.” This will be the first time in a while that I have had the privilege of preaching in church outside of Wednesday’s. We will be doing a series of messages on Christmas and we are splitting the preaching responsibilities between Mark CE/ Worship Pastor) , Eric (Senior Pastor) and myself (Youth Pastor). I got to come up with the title of my message this morning. I’m looking forward to doing this message.

Title: Preparing for the Messiah
Text: Luke 2:1-39
People Profile: Herod, Simeon, Anna
Synopsis: These three all took different steps to preparing for the Messiah.

  • Herod was prepared to kill him.
  • Simeon was told by the Holy Spirit he wouldn’t die until he saw the Lord’s Christ. Simeon was prepared to die.
  • Anna lived with her husband for 7 years. Then as a widow she spent every day at the temple until she was 84. She was a prophetess.

Challenge: What steps are we taking to prepare for the Messiah..not just at Christmas but in our daily lives. To really live for him with our all.
